Western Red Cedar is known for its beauty, natural durability and stability, it is ideal for a variety of exterior and interior uses in a wide range of products.
While Lignum was created back in 1946 by Leslie Kerr, the Lignum Cedar venture was added to the mix in 2010 under the watch of Leslie’s son, Jake Kerr. Although the economy and building materials landscape was very challenging in this period of the housing meltdown in the United States, there was a belief that there existed a viable entry point for a new, different player in the Cedar Industry. At the time, the Cedar market was essentially supplied by either: large companies with recognized brands of good quality cedar products, which typically were accompanied by a level or service and flexibility that often did not meet customers’ needs, or smaller companies that were creative and flexible, however lacking in consistency in supply and quality.
We saw an opportunity to create a new Cedar sales and manufacturing organization that combined the finest attributes of the largest Cedar suppliers and the smaller Cedar producers and wholesalers. Working under the mantra of Leslie Kerr’s business ethic of establishing and maintaining close working relationships with individuals, other businesses, customers, vendors, and colleagues, we would build Lignum Cedar into an organization with a recognized brand, representing consistent supply of high-quality Cedar products, with the highest level of customer service, reliability, flexibility and partner collaboration in our industry.
We have expanded the scope of Cedar business platform to incorporate B.C. Coastal Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce Timbers, with sights set on Hemlock and other complementary opportunities.
